New CD Release
Seed & History
You haven’t heard much from me over the past several years because I’ve been literally working underground. I built a small studio (The Cellar Door). It’s name came from a conversation with a poetry professor who told me that “cellar door” was considered to be the most beautiful words in the English language. The fact that the studio sits just beyond my cellar door was just a coincidence. I set up what looked like just a small pro tools system but the size was deceiving. It took me the better part of a year to learn the software, signal flow, mic placement, out board equipment and on and on and on. I barely had my rookie hat on when Gail Wade came knocking and we did a full cd project. You can check out Gail and that project by visiting www.gailwade.net.
I bought Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions album back in the late 70’s and read in the liner notes that he played all the instruments on most of the songs and I thought how interesting. That always stuck with me. I had to try it. It took a great deal of time and energy and I’d like to say that I got it out of my system but I’m not so sure.
It was too fun for words. A class I teach at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts inspired many of the songs on the new cd. American Soundtrack is a course in 20th century cultural history through music following slave songs all the way to rap. I fell in love with that story, our story, and it continues to weave its way around my head when I’m writing.
So, between teaching and writing and studio work it’s hard to get a live show in edgewise but I’m working on that so please check in from time to time to find out about new dates or better yet sign the mailing list and I’ll keep you posted.
